High FPS matters in PvP, but stable FPS matters even more. A steady 240 feels better than a number that jumps between 400 and 90 every time a bed breaks. Here's what actually helps.
Lunar Client, Badlion and Feather all ship optimizations (like OptiFine-style rendering) for 1.8.9. On 1.20+, Sodium (Fabric) is the biggest single FPS gain.
An FPS cap slightly below what your PC can hold (e.g. 240 or a multiple of your refresh rate) reduces frame-time spikes and input inconsistency.
More is not always better. For 1.8.9 with a texture pack, 2-4 GB is usually ideal; too much can cause longer garbage collection pauses. See how to check how much RAM you have.
On laptops, set javaw.exe to "High performance" under Windows Settings > System > Display > Graphics.
Install drivers directly from NVIDIA, AMD or Intel.
Browsers, launchers and RGB software all eat CPU time. Discord hardware acceleration can also cost frames.
16x packs render faster than 128x+ packs.
Use "High performance" or "Ultimate Performance" while gaming.
Enable Windows Game Mode and use fullscreen instead of windowed.
Thermal throttling silently kills FPS, so clean dust and check temps.
Many FPS dips are caused by how Windows schedules CPU time, handles memory and processes network packets in the background. Our Netherite package includes CPU and RAM optimizations tuned to your exact hardware alongside its network configuration. Results depend on your system, which is why every build is custom. Compare packages.
Start with client and in-game settings, then fix Windows. If you want everything tuned for your specific setup, check out our packages.
