Find your Perfect MTU

Understanding what Maximum Transmission Unit (MTU) is and how to work out yours is not the easiest of subjects, so hopefully this article can clean up any uncertainty you have about the subject!

The Steps

1. Open Command Prompt (CMD) by clicking on Start then type in "cmd"
2. In Command Prompt type "ping www.google.com -f -l 1500" and hit Enter. You will notice "Packet needs to be fragmented" message.
3. Keep lowering the number (1500) and test again until your reach a packet size that does not fragment.

Example: My optimal MTU is 1464
